The Mercatus XL MC167 is the mid-size model in the Power Grill range built by Mercatus in Hamburg, Germany - an infrared grill whose ceramic burners radiate heat downwards onto the food at temperatures of up to 800°C (1500°F).

Because the heat comes from above, fat drips clear of the burners instead of flaring, so the grill builds a heavy caramelised crust without the smoke of an open flame. At full temperature it takes a 1 inch steak to medium-rare in about 60 seconds a side, and the same heat suits fish, chicken, prawns and even desserts. The unit is supplied with a cooking grid, grid holder, drip pan and food pan, and its removable parts are dishwasher safe.
