Hard water is the single biggest cause of premature failure in espresso machines, combi ovens and dishwashers. Calcium and magnesium precipitate out as scale on every heated surface, insulating elements and narrowing pipework until performance drops and a service call follows.

This is a manual ion-exchange softener rather than a throwaway cartridge: an 8 litre resin cylinder that the operator regenerates periodically with roughly a kilogram of salt. It is sized for a single machine or a small bank of equipment, and standing 400 mm tall on a 190 mm diameter it will sit in an under-counter cupboard.
