The Rancilio Black PVC coffee tamper is designed for espresso preparation. It features a simple, ergonomic cylindrical handle with a wide, flat top for comfortable grip and a smooth circular base used to evenly compress ground coffee inside an espresso portafilter. The lightweight, durable construction makes it suitable for consistent tamping during coffee preparation.

Moulded in plastic rather than machined from steel, this is the lighter and cheaper of the two tamper styles - typically the one supplied with a machine, and the one kept as a spare or used for training.

The wide flat mushroom top sits under the palm so the load goes straight down through the wrist, and the flat base compresses the bed evenly across its full width.
